| When you encounter Angela Robinson Witherspoon, wife of celebrated comedian John Witherspoon, you are moved by her exuberant spirit and commitment to fine art. Her memorable persona and penchant for fine art are evident in the couple’s Los Angeles home and at their acclaimed Artpeace Gallery in the city. Whether at home or at the gallery, Angela brings life to rooms with her use of color, intricate shapes, textures and interesting tableaus of objects juxtaposed with one another. Art is not a pastime for Angela, but a deliberate choice to provide an arena to educate others about how art can enrich our daily lives.
“Art smiles at you,” Angela said in a recent conversation. “Where else can you hang your emotions on a wall and have others comment on the feelings that are shown? Art allows you to express these feelings and reveal as much as you like, and camouflage the things that you want to conceal. I have been enriched tenfold by the people I have encountered as an artist. It is a special honor to be an artist and art educator.”
Angela’s early life provided her with amazing opportunities that served as a framework for her love of art. The daughter of the late Elbert C. Robinson, a career diplomat, and Verna Cotton Robinson, who currently resides in Washington, D.C., Angela’s father was assigned to the Netherlands as an attaché during the 1960s and 1970s. |
